Designer Spotlight Series | Lindsey Brooke Design

Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
I started my business in 2016 and haven’t really looked back since. I have a background in design but never thought I would make a full blown career out of it. Now almost 7 years later we are a women lead and ran company of 8, serving clients all over the nation. Each home we design is a testament to the amount of customization and love that goes into each one. At LBD, our work is founded in the idea that the most significant measurement of any space is the quality of life that it creates for the people who live there.
What are some things that inspire you?
The California coast line, traveling, nature. All the usual suspects. I also love being inspired by art and lately have found a lot of inspiration in fabrics and textiles.
Do you have a daily routine or morning ritual that you find helps you, or is every day different?
Coffee, before anything. I also try to wake up slow, spend a few min in my bed, talking to my husband before we have to get up and be crazy with kids, school and work. It helps balance everything if I give myself those 20 min of slow uninterrupted time.
What challenges have you come across running a business?
OMG, where do I start, SOOOO many. I think growing pains have been my main struggles lately. Figuring out how to grow at a pace I want vs what the business can do naturally. Figuring out our place in the industry and how we grow without compromising the brand and integrity of our work. It's hard to say No, but has been the best decision I have made as a business owner. I also think running a team is challenging and our team grew  A LOT this last year or two.The challenges of what I want my company culture to be and creating that was hard, making sure I am there  for everyone on our team and our clients and just having enough time in the day. Those are the constant challenges.
Favorite place you have ever traveled to?
Paris France, and Ojai Ca are my favorites.
Favorite paint color?
That's like picking your favorite kid, but my go to white is simply White and my go to moody color is cheating heart. Both by Benjamin Moore
What is your favorite design style?
Personally, I really like simple, warm and earthy design. I am very into textures and functionality in my own space with very little accessories and “stuff” out. I also am constantly getting inspired by new ideas, colors etc. One min I love color and the next month I want everything neutral.
Is there a designer that you look up to?
I look up to many for some many different reasons. But here are a few of my favorite. Ausland Interiors, Meghan Eisenberg, Brian Paquette, DISC Interiors, Kelly Wearstler.
What are your go-to pillow sizes for a bed and sofa?
Nothing smaller than 20x20 in a square. Beds I like 24x24, 20x20, 14x20 mixed up or several 26x26 and then a really long lumbar. For sofas I like odd numbers for qty and then pair a mixture of sizes from 24x24, 20x20 and 14x20.
If you could give any advice to a person dreaming of starting their own business, what would that be?
Be passionate about the business side as much as you are passionate about the creative side. Be invested in it, don’t be scared of it and learn everything that goes on in your business. The good, bad and ugly. Don’t be scared and know that success and growth only really comes with taking risks, SO TAKE THEM!. And just start, for the love of god, don’t overthink it, JUST DO IT!
