Tips On Putting Pillow Combos Together

Putting pillow combos together can be very confusing and frustrating. The number one request we get asked the most is help with creating a combo for someone's bedroom or living room. Here are some tips to help make the selection process easier for you, hopefully you find this helpful!
Tip #1 - Start with a color palette. You can draw colors from your rug, curtains, or sofa and work off of those. Creating a mood board or flat lay of all the colors can be helpful.
Tip #2 - Mix up the sizes and colors to add layers to your room. When putting pillows together for our clients we use larger pillows in the back of a sofa or bed (like a 24x24 or 22x22) and add a slightly smaller pillow in front (22x22 or 20x20). Use a lumbar to tie it all together. A great size lumbar for the sofa or bed is a 14x20 or 12x24.
Tip #3 - Mix small prints with big prints to avoid competing patterns. Try not to put the same type of print next to each other (busy patterns next to simpler patterns work well).
Tip #4 - Add in neutrals or solids to tie everything together and balance out the room.
Tip #5 - Use numbers to compliment your style. Do you lean towards a classic, more traditional look? If so, use an even number of pillows. For a more modern or eclectic look, use an odd number of pillows.
